Numicon Maths System is a multi-sensory approach to arithmetic teaching
for Foundation, Key Stage 1 and pupils with special needs of all ages. Aims
to develop a rich number concept in pupils to facilitate successful arithmetic.
Numicon???s imagery uses patterns to represent each numeral, the patterns
are structured so number relationships can be seen. Numicon images offer
children insight into the relationships of numbers to one another that are
not provided by written numerals and also give pupils a visual image of
mental arithmetic strategies. Numicon teaching materials comprise: a plastic
patterned shapes and number rods for each number that pupils order, combine
and compare in practical arithmetic and counting activities; a programme
of multi-sensory teaching activities on illustrated cards; feely bags; teachers
books and display number lines showing the images. Well founded in psychological
theory and developed through classroom research the Numicon teaching programme
has been written by practicing teachers. Kits currently available: Foundation
Stage; Kit 1, Kit 2, Numicon At Home Kit, specially adapted Single User
Kits and Plus Packs for pupils with special needs. All kit components available
separately. |
