Psalm 139 -- My Paraphrase

God, you’ve examined me and understood me.
You know what time I get up
and what time I go to work.
You can tell what I’m thinking,
just by looking at me.
You see where I go in the evening,
you watch as I go to bed.
You know everything I do.
Before I open my mouth,
you know what I’m going to say.

You run ahead to protect me,
you walk behind to keep me safe.
You have wrapped your arms around my life.
It all sounds too good to be true,
can I really believe that you do it?

What if I want to run away from your Spirit?
Where could I go if I wanted to escape?
At the heights of my worship you’re there.
At the depths of my sin you’re there as well.
If I fly off into the farthest sunset,
if I move to the other side of the world,
even there you’ll still be guiding me,
even there you’ll be holding my hand.

Often I think that I’m lost in the fog.
Or it’s a forest, at night, I’m alone.
But you can see straight through the dark and the mist.
You shine so brightly, that I can see clearly.
